Textiles and Fashion Design Elective

To Form 6 Home Economics Students
(Taking the Textiles and Fashion Design Elective)

This week the Fashion Design Club is starting on Wednesday afternoons in Room 05 from 2-3pm

The Fashion Design Club is run by myself (Ms.Fallon) so speak to me  if you have any questions. The Club will also be on Thursday morning at 8:10am until Assembly. Hopefully one or more of these times will suit all students involved. If attendance is low, I might change the time slots. I will be keeping a record of attendance.

It is envisaged that you will do the practical coursework for the TFD elective during the club and the academic aspects of the elective will be dealt with in class after the October tests.

On Wednesday 23rd of September I will advise you in regards to designing the garment and selecting a suitable pattern and fabric to make this design.
  • We will examine the requirements of the brief and select the most suitable garment for you based on the requirements of the brief and your personal preferences.
  • Your priority should be to meet the requirement of the brief.
  • You will be given a copy of these requirements on Wednesday, if you do not have one already.
  • Please bring drawing paper and pencils to work on your design. It would also be useful to buy a ring binder/display book with a clear/neutral colour plastic cover for the project accompaning the garment. You should try to source a binder as soon as possible so you can begin to collect drawings and cuttings as well as handout in this folder.
  • Try to buy in a local shop (to support jobs in the area) such as the Wise Owl in Ballinteer.
There are a lot of people doing TFD in Form 6 again this year so we're really looking forward to hearing about your ideas and seeing what you will producing between now and Christmas!

Ms. Fallon,
On behalf of the Home Economics Department.

Form 3 Craftwork for the Junior Cert

Form 3 Craftwork 2009-2010
Form 3 students have started their craftwork and are already busy designing and making patterns for applique cushions and wall-hangings, cross-stitch, embroidery and log cabin patchwork. We encourage all the students to attend craft club any morning or afternoon on the schedule (see previous post) so that they can get their work done under the guidance of their H.E. teachers.
The picture shows a wall hanging by Bronagh Clifford from Ms Fallon's Form 3 H.E. class last year.
Well done to all the Junior Certificate Home Economics students who received their excellent results last week.
